This is more than just an aesthetic choice if you have both footnotes and endnotes in the same document, you'll want to make sure they're different to eliminate confusion. You can specify the kind of numbering, lettering or other symbols that get used when you add footnotes. Change the formatting of the footnotes and endnotes.Click the dropdown menu next to 'Columns' to arrange footnotes into columns instead of following the format of the main text. Change the footnote or endnote layout.If you choose 'Below text,' the notes appear immediately under the last text on the page rather than all the way at the bottom. Now you will have the endnotes appearing in the new section you created just for them and can add new sections and pages following the new endnote section. This tells Word not to show the endnotes at the end of each section selected but to push them forward until the next section that does not have them suppressed. If you are having trouble highlighting your sections to select them all at once, you can go into each of your sections one at a time and do the next step.

This will change all of your endnotes to now appear at the end of each section, not at the end of the book.
